Royal Brunei Airlines sign on as title sponsor for Asian Enduro Series cycling race

A SIGNING ceremony was held yesterday between Royal Brunei Airlines and Kingdom Rides and Adventures to officiate the Sultanate's airlines as the title sponsor for the 3rd round of the Asian Enduro Series cycling race from September 27 to October 1.

With the signing, the competition will now be formally known as the Royal Brunei Enduro Series cycling race.

The signing forged an exciting partnership between both parties focused on the common purpose in unearthing new talents in the sport as well as to boost sports tourism in the region.

“Cycling is booming in many countries and attracting riders of all ages. This event will draw some of the leading riders in the region to Brunei and generate even more local interest in cycling,” said Brett McDougall, RB Executive General Manager in Sales and Marketing, during the press conference held at the Royal Brunei Recreational Club (RBRC) in Berakas yesterday.

“This is the first time a race of this kind has been organised here and Royal Brunei Airlines is delighted to be the title sponsor and official airline of the Asian Enduro Series Brunei 2017,” he added.

Signing on behalf of Kingdom Rides and Adventures was its Director, Jason Pickett, Royal Brunei was represented by McDougall, while Director of Brunei Tourism, Hj Zamree Hj Junaidi witnessed both parties penning the deal.

"Our involvement in the race is part of our strategy of working closely with Brunei Tourism to develop tourism offerings. We see this particular event as a terrific showcase for Brunei which will bring new travellers to our city, introduce them to our pristine environment and hopefully make them regular visitors," continued McDougall.

"Our sales team have worked closely with Kingdom Rides And Adventures and selected local hotels to create air fare and hotel packages for the race entrants and their families. These will be promoted across our network and through the rider communities in Asia," he added.

Over 100 overseas participants are expected to visit the country for the race which will be held at Tasek Serubing in Subok.

Riders may enter one of five categories; Elite, Weekend Warrior, Legends (45+yrs), Feminino (women) and Prodigy (15-17yrs).

Introduced only in 2016, this year's series comprises of four events with the first round held in Nepal in April.

The second round will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand in August, while the fourth and final round will take place in Taiwan in December.
