Padrigao: Programme not about winning yet

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

PEGASUS coach jade Padrigao insisted that winning is not their priority after his side slipped to their fourth consecutive defeat in the Thailand Basketball Super League (TBSL) on Sunday.

The Brunei side suffered their largest defeat to date with a 92-42 drubbing at the hands of Luang Prabang on Saturday.

They followed that up with a 119-76 loss to Singapore’s Adroit – a game which they led by as many as 12 points before getting demolished 40-7 in the third quarter to turn the tie around at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.

The results mean that Pegasus are now at the bottom of the 10-team League joined by the winless Zno Eagles of the Philippines.

“Our target in joining this tournament is to expose local players in a competitive basketball atmosphere,” said Padrigao yesterday.

“Regardless of the win-loss record, our main goal still is to gauge our local talents to have a feel of what pro basketball is about.

“We balanced playing our locals and imports to be competitive but all in all the purpose stays the same,” he added.

“The programme is not about winning yet. It’s about starting something where we can build or sustain in the long run.

“This is our first tournament together so regardless of the result we are already a winner because we start something that no one thought we could,” concluded Padrigao.

Pegasus will next face Indonesia’s BBM CLS Knights next Saturday before a battle of the basement dwellers the next day.
