Two national open records smashed at 7th Brunei Sprints

TWO national open records were broken during the 7th Brunei Sprints (LC) Swimming Championships over the weekend.

Emma Yusuf (C) broke a 30-year-old record after recording a time of 1:19.74 in the women’s 100m breaststroke event at the National Aquatics Centre on Saturday.

The 13-year-old, swimming under the banner of Hammerhead Swimming Club, bettered Hjh Nuralia Hj Rahim’s time of 1:20.17 set on August 16, 1990 in Bangkok.

Ashley Chai achieved the other national open record in the women’s 100m butterfly with a time of 1:10.51 on Sunday.

The Peak Performance Swim Club representative broke Maria Grace Koh’s time of 1:12.01 set by Maria Grace Koh at the 2008 Malaysian Games (SUKMA) in Terengganu.

Ashley Chai managed a new national open record in the women's 100m butterfly event.

A total of 13 clubs - 10 local and three foreign - contested in the two-day event which acted as qualifiers for the upcoming 44th SEA Age Group Swimming Championships in June as well as the 12th ASEAN Schools Games late in the year.

Peak Performance Swim Club topped the table with a total haul of 41 gold, 21 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Hammerhead Swimming Club followed in second with 31 gold, 30 silver and 22 bronze medals.
