NATIONAL swimmer Muhammad Isa Ahmad will savour his experience at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The 23-year-old contested in Heat 1 of the men's 100m breaststroke event and finished with a time of 1:08.65 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Saturday.

His personal best stands at 1:06.40 which he set during the 2019 Brunei Age Group Swimming competition.

"Towards the end of my race I got tired as anybody would but I think I rushed it too much at the beginning and had to face it towards the end," said Muis in an interview with BruSports News on Sunday.

"I was fully committed from the start and will need to continue working on that second 50m.

"I had a good opening and went quite fast compared to previous races. But it is time to move forward with training," he added.

Muis was also thankful to everyone back home for the outpouring support.

"Thank you to all the supporters for the kind messages and tuning in for the race or watching the opening ceremony," said Muis, who became only the second Bruneian swimmer at the Olympics after Anderson Lim in 2012.

"Having full support from people back home has just made me really want to work hard, not for myself but for the whole sport community.

That is what I want to do when I get back and there is more to come. We will move forward from this," he added.

Muis will return back to home soil on Monday and will begin a two-week quarantine.

Despite experiencing a much more different Olympics, he is proud to be able to represent the country.

"I'm very honoured to be the one representing the country and holding the flag (during the opening ceremony). The experience has been amazing and surreal," said Muis.

"Being around so many high level athletes at the most prestigious sporting event in the world is something else and I'm very lucky to experience that.

"It's great that we sent a team out here despite the pandemic as this is going to be the new norm so I guess we were the first ones to experience that," he added.

"As I always say, Brunei is still very young in sports but it's headed in the right direction," concluded Muis.
