DPMM FC coach Adrian Pennock was disappointed that his side will not be able to complete their campaign in the now defunct Brunei Super League.

The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) announced on Monday that the BSL 2021 had been abandoned citing time constraints due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

DPMM FC were seated at the top of the 15-team standings when the League was brought to an abrupt halt in the first week of August.

They had a maximum of 18 points from six games tied with Kota Ranger FC but on a superior goal difference.

"I'm very disappointed that we can't finish the season. With only eight games remaining, I don't understand why we can't finish it and then roll over into the new season," said Pennock when contacted by BruSports News on Thursday.

"Us and all the other teams in the Brunei Super League have worked hard before and during the season, why finish it now?

"If you look at other sporting events around the world such as the Olympics, Euros or even other football league seasons, they were delayed and then finished when the virus was under control," he added.

Further to his dismay was that the Brunei Futsal League will resume at a further date.

"I did see that the futsal league is resuming and that's in confined space where as football is outdoors," said the Englishman.

"The Brunei people and supporters deserve to see the outcome of the season as they have been through so much during these tough times.

"Surely this could have made them smile and enjoy watching football again. I sincerely hope the Brunei FA can reconsider this decision," concluded Pennock.

DPMM FC ruthless through six games

DPMM FC were enroute to set all kind of records in the BSL having scored 56 goals and only conceding one.

Belarusian striker Andrei Varankou was the League's topscorer at that point after netting 22 of those goals.

They began their campaign with a 16-1 drubbing of BAKES FC and followed that up with a 15-0 demolition of Rimba Star FC.

It was three straight games in double figures as they swept aside BSRC FC 13-0.

It was a much closer affair when they faced off against Indera SC with a 2-0 victory.

DPMM FC then beat Wijaya FC 8-0 followed by a 2-0 win over Kasuka FC.

They were supposed to face Kota Ranger on August 8 before it was called off when Brunei reported their first cases of the COVID-19 second wave the day before.
