WAFI AMINUDDIN is focused on recovery having been forced out of football for at least a year due to injury.

He underwent surgery on his ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) in early June - 11 weeks after picking up the injury in the second half of DPMM FC’s Singapore Premier League encounter against Geylang International FC on 19th March.

It hasn’t been the easiest task but he is working on bouncing back strongly from the ground up.

“I’m still learning to walk normally even after two months post-op, but I think overall it’s going really well,” said Wafi in a recent interview with BruSports News.

“I would say it’s like having a new leg and I have to do everything from the beginning - learning how to walk again, strengthening to sit and get up, and just trying to do daily activities.

“It is going to be a long and challenging process both mentally and physically, but I will take it slow as I want to minimise the risk of reinjuring my ACL and my knee again,” he added.

Wafi missed out on DPMM FC’s AFC Cup debut against Yangon United and will also miss Brunei’s upcoming World Cup and Asian Cup joint preliminary qualifiers against Indonesia in October.

The YOU.C1000 ambassador is disappointed to miss out on the opportunities but remains positive.

“I was hoping that this year will be a big one for me with plenty of footballing action, but knowing that I will miss the rest of the year after sustaining the injury is heartbreaking," said the 22-year-old.

“Missing the (World Cup) qualifiers is another sadness for me, but I will keep my head up and support Brunei from the stands in hoping for them to do well.

He knows what is the priority right now and will stick to the plan.

“There are no plans for football but I will be looking forward for next year. For now I will be focussing myself for the most part on my recovery and rehab," said the DPMM FC centreback.

“It has been very difficult, mentally and emotionally challenging not being able to play.

“But I always remind myself to look further forward into the future and focus on my rehab so I can be back to action as soon as possible," he added.

“I’m still young, so I know I have many more years of football ahead. Everything happens for a reason and I believe that Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear," concluded Wafi.
