THE national wushu team produced their best showing at the SEA Games since making their debut in 2009.

They added one silver and one bronze medals in the final day of the wushu competition at the 30th SEA Games today bringing their haul to one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

The pair of Majdurano Joel Majallah Sain and Mohd Safiee Shayferan Roslan finished runners-up in the men’s duilian event after racking 9.50 points.

Indonesia claimed the gold by 0.04 points while the Philippines were on 9.49 points to complete the podium in third place.

Meanwhile, Basma Lachkar won the bronze medal from the women’s taijijian event with her score of 9.62 points.

Agatha Chrystenz of the Philippines won her second gold after notching 9.65 point followed by Vietnam's Thi Minh Huyen just 0.02 points back.

Mohd Adi Salihin Roslan, who won gold in the men’s nandao/nangun combined event yesterday, missed out on a bronze medal despite tallying matching 9.62 points as Myanmar’s Thein Than Oo due to the later having a higher difficulty rating.

National wushu coach Li Hui is proud of the achievement by his charges.

“This is the best achievement for Brunei wushu at the SEA Games so far and the team did very well. I’m very satisfied with the performance,” said Li Hui in an interview with BruSports News today.

“We also got comments from the coaches from the other countries that Brunei has improved a lot in a short period of time.

“I feel very proud of the team and we will continue to work hard to achieve more for Brunei,” he added.

Basma, who copped a silver medal in the women’s taijiquan on Sunday, is looking forward to getting better.

“I would like to thank everyone for supporting our team and we are very honoured to represent our beloved country,” said Basma.

“I’ve done my best in my performance and happy that the hard work paid off including my teammates.

“I will still continue training and improve my performance better for future competitions,” she concluded.

Hosea Wong was the other Bruneian representative and he will return with one silver and one bronze from the men’s taijiquan and taijijian events respectively.
